House Once At Center of Historic Preservation Fight For Sale — Germantown Real Estate news

2524 S. Superior St. Photo taken Nov. 5, 2026 by Jeramey Jannene. A newly constructed Bay View home that was at the center of a years-long historic preservation fight is now for sale, with a million-dollar asking price. The 3,446-square-foot house at 2524 S. Superior St. was built on a vacant lot in the middle of a row of 160-year-old workers cottages. Its construction triggered a renewed effort to designate the block as a historic district, though that effort appears to have faltered for the second time. The new home, which has five bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms, is listed for $1,049,000 by Highmark RE Group. Owner Jonathan Bonchak, a dermatologist, acquired the property in 2022 and subsequently pursued construction of a two-story house on the site. According to the listing, the main floor features an open-concept living and dining area, a kitchen with custom cabinetry and Taj Mahal countertops, and a mudroom and pantry. Upstairs are a primary suite with a large shower and custom closet
